JMC in a 'cash-22' situation
JAIPUR:
The finance condition of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is in a
shambles. The civic body is yet to realise hundreds of crores of rupees as urban
development tax. The JMC is also burdened with excess
staff.
According to the JMC employees’ union general secretary, Murari Lal Sharma, the JMC at present has to bear an additional burden of Rs 1 crore monthly to pay the excess staff. Recently, in a memorandum to the JMC chief executive officer (CEO), the JMC employees’ union threatened to go on strike if the officials on deputation are not withdrawn with immediate effect.
The general secretary said the JMC has six commissioners, one superintendent of police along with a couple of additional chief engineers and many revenue collectors for whom the budget has no allocation. “There are dozens of senior officers, who are on prolonged deputation in order to stay on in the state capital,” said Sharma.
CEO Damodar Sharma agreed that the JMC needs rationalization and downsizing of excess staff.
